Preserving a wedding dress: why it’s worth doing right
A wedding dress is rarely just a dress. It’s one of the few garments people keep for a lifetime, which is exactly why it deserves more than a spot in the back of the closet.
The biggest threats to a stored dress are the ones you can’t see. Champagne, frosting, and perspiration dry clear, then slowly yellow over the years. Cleaning the dress before storage — even if it looks spotless — is the single most important step.
Preservation goes further than cleaning. The dress is carefully packed in acid-free materials that protect it from light, dust, and the slow discoloration that ordinary cardboard and plastic can cause.
Timing matters too. The sooner a dress is cleaned after the wedding, the better — stains that are weeks old come out far more easily than stains that have had a year to settle in.
Whether you’re saving the dress for a daughter, for an anniversary, or simply for yourself, bring it in and we’ll talk through the options. It’s one of our favorite things to do.
